The Climate
The climate is dry with temperatures between 17 and 20 degrees Celcius. Early mornings can be cold with the air warming as the day progresses. At night the temperature is dependent on the sky, clear skies bring cold weather and cloud will bring cool weather. The rainy season is from December to March. Passports & Visas
Citizens from most countries in the Americas and Western Europe do not require visas to enter Peru as tourists. The maximum authorized length of stay is 90 days.
Health
The Colca Valley is located in the Andes, and the Colca property is 3260 meters above sea level. For this reason there is a risk of altitude sickness (soroche). Measures to combat this include drinking hot infusions and a special coca tea as soon as you arrive. We recommend relaxing, walking slowly and eating lightly on your first day in the Valley.
There is a private medical centre located in Chivay only 10 minutes from Las Casitas del Colca.

Top Tips: - Wear comfortable shoes for walking
- Drink plenty of water during exercise
- In the villages and towns of the Colca Canyon the currency used is Peru Nuevos Soles, US Dollars are not widely accepted. It is recommended to organize this currency before arriving in the Colca Canyon.
Shops & Banks in the Colca Canyon
Shops open between 09.00 and 10.00 and remain open until 20.00.
Banks are open Monday to Friday 9.30 - 18.00 and on Saturdays until 12.30. Electricity: 220 Volts. Bathrooms are also equipped with 110 V plugs and adaptors are available.
