Colca Canyon

It is one of the deepest and most beautiful canyons in Peru. Its deepest point is at an elevation of 3400 m at the town of Canco, hard by the boundary between the Cailloma and Castilla provinces. The canyon is a geological formation produced by a crack in the Earth’s crust that has been eroded by the Colca River for thousands of years. The area is surrounded by volcanoes, like Mounts Coropuna, Ampato, and Sabancaya.
